The curriculum

Leckford Place offers a full and broad curriculum with a strong academic core. Although based on the National Curriculum, we tailor our offering to the needs of our pupils – so go significantly beyond national standards.

The curriculum covers the full range of subjects in the sciences, humanities, arts and modern languages – and includes music, drama and sport, both as curriculum subjects and as extracurricular activities.

Please click on the headings below to find out specific details of the curriculum studied by students in each year group.

Years 10-11

Years 10 and 11 are the GCSE years, and we offer a full range of options. Indeed, we endeavour to respond to pupil needs by defining our option blocks on the basis of the choices our pupils make. This means that the vast majority of students are able to pursue the GCSE courses most suited to their talents and ambitions.

Core (compulsory) GCSE subjects

In Years 10-11, all pupils take a compulsory core of three GCSE subjects: Maths, English and English Literature.

Additional subjects

In addition to the core subjects, students choose six further GCSE subjects from the list below:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Physics
  • History
  • Geography
  • Religious Studies
  • French
  • Spanish
  • German
  • Art
  • Classical Civilisation
  • Drama
  • ICT
  • Latin
  • Music
  • PE

When choosing from the above list, all students must include in their choice:

  • at least two Science subjects (Biology, Chemistry, Physics)
  • at least one Modern Language subject (French, Spanish, German)
  • at least one Humanities subject (History, Geography, Religious Studies)

Most students study 9 GCSEs, but more may be accommodated off timetable as after-school extras.
