Homework

There's no doubt: homework is an important part of study. But it's not the Holy Grail of academic success, and we don't believe that students need to lead a monastic life to achieve good grades.

Consequently, we aim for a sensible balance between work and play. We expect students to complete homework on time and to a good standard – but also want them to have time to spend with their family and pursuing their own hobbies and interests.

How much homework does the school set?

Every student will have a timetable detailing which each day's homework schedule – and the amount of homework set will vary according to age, approximately as follows:

  • Years 7-8: 60-90 minutes per day
  • Year 9: 1-2 hours per day
  • Years 10-11: 1½-2½ hours per day

After-school Homework Club

Our after-school Homework Club enables students to complete their work in a quiet environment, with staff supervisors always on hand to provide help and guidance. The club runs from 4pm until 5.30pm (for Years 7-9) and until 6pm (for GCSE students).

Parents may book their children into the club free of charge.

Keeping track of students' progress

Pupils at Leckford Place can expect that homework will be set and marked regularly, and that they'll receive specific feedback that is both realistic and encouraging.
