After Leckford Place – what comes next?

At the end of their GCSE years, most of our students go on to study A levels at the d'Overbroeck's Sixth Form.

Leckford Place is part of d'Overbroeck's College – so whilst our Sixth Form is based on a different site, the transition from one to the other is likely to be a smooth one.

The assumption is that Leckford Students will transfer to the Sixth Form at the end of Year 11, meaning that we offer a full and integrated 11-18 education.

Similarities between Leckford Place and the Sixth Form

Like Leckford Place, the d'Overbroeck's Sixth Form is characterised by individualism, and boasts the same unique blend of challenge and support, and the same highly qualified staff, committed to realising the potential of each and every student.

There are, of course, differences. Because our Sixth Formers are on a separate site, we can approach a more relaxed attitude towards some of the rules and structures that are necessary for the younger children at Leckford. By the time they graduate to Sixth Form, Leckford students are ready to take on the extra degree of responsibility and independence offered at the Sixth Form.

How we help students make the transition

Leckford Place grew out of the d'Overbroeck's Sixth Form, and many aspects of our ethos and style are similar. This means that the essentials of the Sixth Form approach are already familiar to Leckford Place students.

Nevertheless, we want to make the transition as seamless as possible. Here are a few of the ways in which we help with this:

  • We run a programme of familiarisation visits to the Sixth Form, which help build enthusiasm for the next step
  • Sixth Form students come to Leckford Place to act as peer mentors – as well as helping in other spheres (A level linguists, for instance, come and help provide extra foreign language conversation practice)
  • Sixth Form Heads of Subject periodically visit Leckford Place to give assemblies or host workshops

‘It's been great to get to know some of the Sixth Formers.’
