AGES 13 TO 16

THE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL CURRICULA

Expertly curated by The International School team, we offer a choice of five academically rigorous programmes. Alongside a traditional two-year IGCSE curriculum, we provide four flexible options: the one-year IGCSE, 4 or 5-term IGCSE, UK Study Abroad, and The Discovery Years. Each programme embraces individual strengths and ambitions, and develops the skills our students need to flourish in the future.

THE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL CURRICULA

Our 13 to 16-year-olds follow one of five academic programmes. Rooted in the English National Curriculum, each programme combines outstanding teaching with exceptional learning experiences, setting them up for success in their IGCSEs.

Flexibility is at the heart of each pathway. This ensures high-performing students are stretched and challenged at the right level, and every child receives the support they need. It also means we can tailor learning to the individual – for example, if a student plans to return to their home country’s education system after studying at d’Overbroeck’s.

OUR INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL PROGRAMMES

We offer five academic pathways through The International School, which are explained below.
Doverbroecks Day 3-515
The Discovery Years

Our Year 9 (age 13) ‘Discovery’ programme prepares students for our IGCSE courses. We offer one, two, or three-term options where learners focus on the core subjects, as well as languages, art, music, drama, computing, and more.

Doverbroecks Day 3-506
Two-year IGCSE

Our two-year IGCSE curriculum – where students typically specialise in eight to eleven subjects – culminates in exams at the age of 16. Your child will take compulsory maths, English (first and second language), and at least two science subjects.

Doverbroecks Day 3-47
One-year IGCSE

Students following our one-year IGCSE curriculum study for between five and eight subjects. These include compulsory maths, English, and at least one science.

Doverbroecks Day 3-9
4- or 5-term IGCSE

Starting in either January or April, our 4- or 5-term IGCSE programme sees our students work towards between seven and nine IGCSE qualifications. Your child will take compulsory maths, English (first or second language), and at least two sciences.

Doverbroecks Day 3-499
UK Study Abroad

Open to Year 9 and 10 students, our one-, two-, or three-term programmes are the perfect introduction to the British education system. The courses the curriculum aligns with those being studied by peers on other pathways.

ENGLISH AS AN ADDITIONAL LANGUAGE

d’Overbroeck’s International School in Oxford is home to one of the largest English as an Additional Language (EAL) teams in the country. Here, highly qualified teachers deliver specialist programmes that are tailored to the needs of each student. This helps them to become confident English language communicators.

We’ll make sure your child is developing their English in parallel to their academic subject knowledge, too. This allows them to make outstanding progress in all areas.
