RECOGNISING OUTSTANDING POTENTIAL

d’Overbroeck’s provides a range of scholarships available to prospective students wishing to join us in Year 7, Year 9 or Year 12.


Scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate exceptional potential and outstanding talent in their respective field. Scholars are expected to lead by example, whether that is through their academic, artistic, sporting or other achievements, and to make a significant positive contribution to the life of the school.


The financial value of our scholarships vary and are always offered at the discretion of the school.

SENIOR SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS

Our Senior School scholarships include Academic, Art, Drama and Music. The financial value of these awards is up to a maximum of 20% of our tuition fees.

Academic

Our academic scholarships award outstanding potential and we need to see evidence of a high level of academic achievement to date. Students will be invited to an interview subject to performance in the entrance assessment.

Art

This scholarship allows us to recognise outstanding talent in the visual/fine arts, which will be demonstrated by a portfolio of work. We require candidates to spend half a day in school producing a piece of work and discussing their portfolio.

Drama

Students with outstanding dramatic talent are welcome to apply for our Drama scholarships. They'll need to demonstrate commitment and play a very active role in school productions and other performing arts activities.

Music

Year 7: Music Scholarships are awarded to students who show a good foundation on their first instrument (Gr 4+) and a genuine and deep interest in music.

Year 9: Music Scholarships are awarded to students who show a strong foundation on their first instrument (Gr 6+) and the potential and desire to be a fine musician.

Applicants should be keen to play an active role in the musical life of the school, and should love music! They are expected to participate in 3 or more weekly ensembles and to participate in all school concerts, as well as helping with practical arrangements (setting up, ushering etc) on concert days.

In the scholarship audition candidates should perform two pieces (either two pieces on one instrument or one piece on two instruments). They will be given some aural tests and will also be asked about their musical experience and interests.

SIXTH FORM SCHOLARSHIPS

Our Sixth Form scholarships include Academic, Art, Drama, Media, Music, Sport, and the Tennis Academy. The financial value of these awards is up to a maximum of 25% of our tuition fees.

Academic

Our academic scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate exceptional academic potential and achievement to date. These students will have a consistently outstanding level of academic attainment and exhibit potential for future excellence. Students should be on track to achieve 9s and 8s at GCSE level or equivalent.

Art

Our Art scholarship is awarded to students with an exceptional talent in the visual/fine arts, supported by a strong portfolio of work. Applicants for this scholarship must be intending to study Art as one of their A-level subjects.

Drama

Our Drama scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate excellent dramatic ability, showing achievement, commitment and enthusiasm. Applicants must be intending to study Drama as one of their A-level subjects.

Media

If you have a flair for film or video-making, passion for photography or talent for journalism, this scholarship is for you. Our Film, Video, Photography and Journalist scholars demonstrate outstanding talent, and are likely to be considering a career in their chosen field. They play an active role in covering school events and activities through these media, and are supported in developing their skills with input from our alumni and parent communities.

Music

Music Scholarships are awarded to students who show exceptional musical ability and achievement. Applicants should be Gr 8 standard on their first instrument, should be taking A level Music and/or A level Music Technology and should want and be ready to play an active role in the musical life of the school. As well as looking for a level of excellence and achievement in their technical ability we look for enthusiasm and a positive attitude. Music scholars are expected to be great ambassadors for music at d’Overbroeck’s. They will participate in 3 or more weekly ensembles and help coach younger or less experienced players, either at the Sixth Form or at one of the other school sites. Music scholars are also expected to participate in all school concerts and help with practical arrangements (setting up, ushering etc) on the day.

In the scholarship audition candidates should perform two pieces (either two pieces on one instrument or one piece on two instruments). They will be asked to perform a quick study piece with accompanist which they will be given on the day, and will also be asked about their musical experience and interests.

Sport

Our Sport scholars are expected to be good ambassadors for Sport within the school, helping to promote the benefits of a healthy, physically active lifestyle. Applicants for our Sports scholarship are required to be playing and training to a high standard in their chosen sport (such as county player or equivalent). We would also usually expect applicants to be intending to study A-level Physical Education.

Tennis Academy

Our Tennis Academy is a dedicated programme designed to support excellent tennis players who wish to develop their tennis career alongside studying their A-levels and getting all the benefits of a d'Overbroeck's education. Applicants should have, or be working towards, a World Tennis Number (or the equivalent rating) of 16-19 or better. We will also consider players slightly below this standard if they show good potential. All applicants must also meet our standard academic entry requirements.

SIXTH FORM SCHOLARSHIP ASSESSMENTS

The Academic Scholarship Assessment Day will take place Saturday 16 November. Art, Drama, Media, Music, Sport and Tennis Academy Sixth Form scholarship application days will take place w/c 25 November 2024. Participation in these scholarship assessment days is by invitation only and is dependent on a prospective student’s performance to date.

Our International School Olympiad is a global scholarship competition that is designed to enable talented students to access all the benefits of a d’Overbroeck’s education.

The International School Olympiad scholarship

Our International School Olympiad scholarships are awarded to students who consistently demonstrate exceptional talent and outstanding potential throughout the competition assessments.

OLYMPIAD ASSESSMENTS

In the first round, applicants will be invited to:

  • sit our entrance assessments
  • submit a personal statement
  • write a 300-word critical essay on a given topic
  • have an interview with a member of our senior leadership team

In the second round, applicants will be invited to:

  • Complete a task based on the theme of ‘global citizens and future leaders’
  • Take part in a Q&A discussion based on their response to the task
