Last term over 30 Sixth Form
A-Level Mathematics students took part in the UKMT Senior Maths Challenge; a national mathematics competition aimed at challenging students and inspiring a love for problem solving. The 90-minute, multiple choice competition is a time pressured exercise, putting students mathematical reasoning and techniques to the test.
In the first round, our students achieved some excellent results:
- 11 students were awarded Gold
- 11 students were awarded Silver
- 5 students were awarded Bronze
The highest performing students were then invited to one of two follow-on competitions: the Senior Kangaroo or British Mathematical Olympiad 1.
The top 10% of students nationally were invited to participate in the Senior Kangaroo competition and we were pleased to have 6 students from d’Overbroeck’s qualify; Helen, Daniel, Joshua, Susan, Makani and Tom. Special congratulations go to Susan who placed in the top 25% and achieved a Merit in this second round.
Students who were placed in the top 1000 were invited to take part in the British Mathematical Olympiad Round 1 and we were delighted to have 5 students qualify; Alexander, Alan, Franciszek, Jonah and Ansis. Alexander, Alan and Franciszek placed in the top 70% and achieved a Merit, whist Jonah and Ansis placed in the top 25% and achieved a Distinction.
Well done to all those who took part in the challenge and congratulations on your outstanding results!
